Growing Roads Project (presentation slides)

This project was a conceptual intervention created for a sustainability class. What I proposed is a a type of paved road with subtle perforations through it (the dashed lines), with large root trees at key flex points (the diamonds). As the trees grow, the roots push up and through the perforations to purposefully and gracefully transform the road from from smooth and car friendly into traffic calming cobblestone roads for pedestrians over time as the neighbourhood matures.

This project was also entered into the 2010 Resilient City Design Competition held by Cohos Evamy (Now Dialog).
