Redesigning Community Engagement
2011 UrbanSpace Design Competition
The aim of the competition was to redesign the city's outdated "notice of new development" signage to be clearer and to encourage citizen engagement. However, the pursuit of meaningful public participation requestired a reconsideration of the entire user experience chain. To that end, the design sacrifices legalese for clarity and to deliberately provoke opinions.
Next, we went beyond the signage to design mobile and desktop optimized web experiences where more information could be found and where productive discussions of the new development, both with other members of the community and with the planner, can efficiently take place.
